Why I decided to stop dressing up my cats

Dressing up cats. A much debated topic during the weeks leading up to Halloween. In the midst of this somewhat heated discussion, two questions came to mind: “Is it worth it?” and “What do I know?”

Ani, 7 months: a reflection

Today I fell in love with Ani all over again. I took him to the vet for a check-up since he has developed the weird habit to launch himself all the way to the floor when he’s up high on the cat tree. I wanted to see if he has trouble seeing depth or physical problems with climbing down.

The day I met Kafka

Then, out of nowhere, a fluffy creature appeared. His fur was wild and messy, his voice was raspy. He walked over to me, looking a little bewildered. “Is that you?” I asked and he meowed, and somehow I couldn’t help but burst out in laughter.

Lodewijk

Lodewijk and I met at the shelter in 2012. My cat Napoleon just passed away after getting hit by a car and I didn’t think I was ready for a new cat, but it was love at first sight.

2,5 months with Ani

Anakin has been living with us for 2,5 months now and he absolutely adores Kafka. Kafka has been behaving very fatherly, to the point where I wonder if Kafka ever had kittens of his own. I know very little about his life before he was brought to the animal shelter.

Kafka’s adoption story

August 2017 I was brought in at the shelter very neglected. My elderly owner could no longer care for me. My teeth and fur were in very bad shape and, as we later found out, I had some digestion problems.

My human saw my picture and story on the Dutch website http://www.ikzoekbaas.nl (“I’m looking for an owner”) and she immediately picked up the phone to arrange a meeting with me.
